‘Banpo Bridge Falling Porsche’ Hospital Director Charged with Drug Supply
The director of a hospital supplying propofol found in a Porsche that fell off Banpo Bridge is being investigated by the police.
The Seoul Yongsan Police are investigating a hospital director for violations of drug control laws after propofol was discovered in a Porsche that fell from the Banpo Bridge. The vehicle's driver, identified as Mr. K, allegedly received the drug from a former nursing assistant, a thirty-something woman known as Ms. N, who worked at the same plastic surgery hospital. Following the accident, it was reported that propofol bottles and disposable syringes filled with the substance were found in the wrecked car.
On the evening of the incident, which occurred on the 25th of last month, Mr. K, while driving the black Porsche on Banpo Bridge, crashed through the barriers and plummeted into the Han River embankment near the submerged bridge. According to police investigations, Ms. N, who had befriended Mr. K during a visit to the hospital, reportedly provided him with the propofol on multiple occasions, having smuggled it out by inflating the drug usage figures in the hospital’s records.
The police plan to remand Ms. N to custody on the 19th for violations of narcotics law and theft, as investigators continue to look into her involvement and any additional charges that may arise. This incident raises serious questions about drug supply chains in medical institutions and could lead to broader implications for how medical personnel handle controlled substances.
