Fraud for Job Placement on Cruise, 6 Accused Arrested from Noida
Police in Noida have arrested six individuals involved in a scam promising jobs on cruise ships and abroad.
Police in Noida's Sector 113 have uncovered a scam involving a gang that was cheating people by promising jobs on cruise ships and abroad. Six suspects, including young men and women, have been arrested as part of this operation. According to police reports, the gang targeted individuals through social media, offering enticing job opportunities in exchange for money. The authorities have seized mobile phones, laptops, computer systems, and numerous fake documents from the accused, indicating a well-organized scheme to defraud job seekers.
Investigations revealed that the fraudsters marketed their ploys through fake paid advertisements on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram under the guise of 'We Are Hiring'. They lured job aspirants with offers to secure jobs on cruise ships and overseas employment. Interested individuals were instructed to fill out online application forms, which were then collected by the scammers to compile their personal information, further facilitating their criminal activities. The advertisements created a false sense of hope, enticing many to believe in the legitimacy of the job offerings.
Victims were charged upwards of 40,000 to 60,000 rupees for the application process, after which they were sent fraudulent joining letters via email. Once the payments were made, the accused ceased all communication, leaving the victims to realize they had been scammed after it's too late. This incident highlights the growing trend of online job fraud, emphasizing the need for increased vigilance among job seekers, especially in an era where social media plays a significant role in bridging employers and potential employees.
