Fake Inspector Held for Job Scams in Hotel Interviews
A man posing as a police officer has been arrested in Kanpur for fraudulently promising jobs and extorting money from people.
In Kanpur, police have apprehended a conman who had been deceiving people under the guise of a police inspector, promising them government jobs in exchange for money. The accused, identified as Sanjay Kumar Singh, wore a police uniform and claimed to be a CBI officer to gain the trust of his victims. He was caught after police received a tip-off about his suspicious activities, where he was seen traveling in a vehicle registered to the government and approaching individuals with job offers.
Upon his arrest, police discovered a series of incriminating items in his possession, including police uniforms, multiple identification cards of CBI officials, a letter from the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, and even a lighter pistol. The investigation revealed that Singh had been orchestrating a sophisticated scam for a long time, luring victims by inviting them to interviews at hotels where he would falsely present himself as an official overseeing the hiring process. He would then provide fake job offer letters after extracting money from them.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the prevalence of job fraud in the region, particularly as individuals desperate for employment fall victim to such deceitful schemes. The local police are now investigating the full extent of Singh's operations and are urging the public to be cautious when approached with job offers, especially those that seem too good to be true, to prevent further incidents of fraud in the community.
