In the Saeima elections, 158 polling stations will be available in Riga
Riga will have 158 polling stations for the upcoming Saeima elections this fall, as confirmed by the Riga City Council's recent decision.
In preparation for the upcoming Saeima elections this fall, the Riga City Council has approved a list of 158 polling stations in the city. This number remains the same as in previous elections; however, nine of the polling station locations have been changed and 49 polling station numbers have been updated. The decision regarding the locations was made based on factors such as accessibility for wheelchair users, voter turnout in previous elections, and voting habits of the public.
Among these polling stations, 111 will be located within educational institutions. Additionally, the polling stations will also be situated in 12 shopping centers, including popular locations such as 'Akropole Rīga', 'Domina Shopping', and 'Galleria Rīga'. This incorporation of commercial venues aims to enhance accessibility for voters, ensuring that they have convenient options to cast their ballots during the elections.
Moreover, polling stations will also be found in four hospitals, including major medical facilities like the Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital and the Riga East Clinical University Hospital. This strategic placement is likely intended to accommodate all voters, including those who may need to visit hospitals around the election period, thereby promoting higher voter participation in the electoral process.
