Riga Calls for Applications for Saeima Election District Members
Riga is starting to accept applications for candidates to be members of election district commissions for the Saeima elections scheduled for October.
The city of Riga has announced that it will begin accepting applications for candidates to serve on the election district commissions for the upcoming Saeima elections. This process is facilitated by the External Communication Department of the Riga City Council, which aims to ensure sufficient personnel for monitoring and managing the electoral process.
To be eligible for appointment as a member of the election district commission, candidates must be Latvian citizens, possess at least a general secondary education, and have proficiency in the Latvian language at a C1 level. Additionally, candidates are expected to demonstrate adequate professional skills necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, and they must be able to sign documents with a secure electronic signature. Importantly, candidates cannot already be members of another electoral commission or hold positions as deputies in the European Parliament, Saeima, or in local municipal councils.
The opportunity to nominate candidates for these positions is restricted to authorized persons from registered political parties or their associations, as well as members of the Riga Municipal Election Commission. The regulations set clear boundaries on who can serve to maintain the integrity and impartiality of the electoral process, ensuring that the district commissions function effectively during the electoral period.
