In Riga, there will be 158 polling stations for the Saeima elections, for the first time also at the zoo
Riga's Saeima elections will feature 158 polling stations, including a new location at the National Zoo.
For the upcoming Saeima elections in Riga, voters will have access to 158 polling stations, the same number as in the previous elections; however, nine of these have changed locations and 49 have new station numbers. In determining the locations of the voting stations, authorities considered factors such as accessibility for wheelchair users, voter activity during previous elections, and established voting habits. As before, the majority of the polling stations, totaling 111, will be situated in educational institutions.
This election cycle emphasizes accessibility and high-traffic locations, with significant attention given to setting up polling stations in areas where large crowds are common. There will be 12 polling stations located in shopping centers across the city, including popular venues like 'Akropole Rīga', 'Domina Shopping', and 'Galleria Rīga'. Additionally, four hospitals will serve as voting locations, enhancing accessibility for those who may have difficulty traveling to other stations.
Notably, a new polling station will be established at the Rīgas Nacionālā zoo, marking the first time voters can cast their ballots in such a unique setting. This change is indicative of efforts to make the election process more approachable and engaging for the citizens of Riga, potentially increasing voter turnout by providing more convenient options for various demographics, including families and those with mobility challenges.
