Metro begins construction of station in Guarulhos, the first outside the São Paulo capital

The Metro in Brazil has commenced construction on the Dutra station in Guarulhos, marking the first metro station to be built outside São Paulo city proper.

The Metro of São Paulo has started the construction of the Dutra station located in Guarulhos, which is a notable development as it's the first station outside of São Paulo capital. This station is a part of the second phase of the expansion project aimed at connecting the eastern zones of São Paulo to the metropolitan city of Guarulhos. The location of the station has been strategically chosen, being situated across from the International shopping center and adjacent to the Presidente Dutra highway, which will facilitate easy access for the local community.

The initiation of the construction work began on Monday, October 23, following the acquisition of the necessary installation license from the Environmental Company of the State (CETESB) the prior week. The first phase of construction will involve demolition, site clearing, and establishing the construction site, as confirmed by the Metro company. They have indicated that once these preliminary tasks are completed, the execution of the foundation piles for the station can commence.

Once completed, the Dutra station is set to encompass an area of 34,300 square meters, designed entirely underground. The construction will take place in an open trench and will reach a significant depth, highlighting the engineering efforts to integrate the station underground while ensuring connectivity to the surrounding areas. This development is expected to enhance public transportation options for the residents of Guarulhos as well as strengthen the metropolitan connection with São Paulo.
