Aerial Tram Connecting CPTM to Guarulhos Airport Starts Operating Only at Night and with Reduced Capacity
The Aeromovel, a monorail connecting São Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport to the local train system, has commenced limited nighttime operations with reduced capacity.
The Aeromovel, a monorail link between São Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport and the Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM), began its passenger service on Friday, October 20. Initially, it operates only during the night, from 5:30 PM to midnight, with a reduced capacity. The operator, AeroGRU, anticipates that approximately 500 passengers will utilize the service daily during this limited operational phase, which includes both arrivals and departures at the airport.
During the hours when the Aeromovel is not in operation, travelers arriving at the Airport-Guarulhos Station on the Line 13-Jade must rely on bus services to reach the airport terminals. This limited service follows a testing phase that started on December 4, exclusively for airport staff. The gradual operation is part of a broader strategy from AeroGRU to ensure all safety and operational certifications are completed.
Looking ahead, AeroGRU has outlined plans to increase the Aeromovel's capacity with the addition of a second vehicle expected by the first semester of next year. The full delivery of the project is projected to be reached in the second semester of 2024, aiming to enhance connectivity for travelers between the train system and the airport, promising a more efficient travel experience as the service expands.
