Two new average speed control zones activated on the Riga bypass in the Ogre region

Two new average speed control zones have been introduced on the Riga bypass, monitoring vehicle speed, insurance, technical inspections, and road usage fees.

In the Ogre region, two new average speed control zones have been implemented on the Riga bypass (A4) segment from Baltezers to Saulkalne. The monitoring will track average vehicle speeds, ensuring compliance with mandatory civil liability insurance (OCTA), vehicle technical inspections, and the payment of road usage fees as part of traffic regulation efforts.

The controls are part of a broader initiative that also launched average speed monitoring sections on several major roads across Latvia in the past week, including the Vidzeme highway (A2) sections, Valmiera highway, Daugavpils highway, Ventspils highway, and the road segment from TΔ«nΕ«ΕΎi to Koknese. This expansion indicates a significant increase in traffic enforcement measures aimed at improving road safety and compliance with transport regulations.

Prior to this year, Latvia had established 16 average speed control sections; the addition of these 17 new zones this year represents a notable commitment to enhancing traffic monitoring and aims to reduce violations, thereby promoting road safety across the nation.
