New average speed control zones will be implemented on the Tallinn and Liepaja highways
New speed control zones are set to be introduced on major highways in Latvia for monitoring average speeds and vehicle compliance.
Starting Wednesday, new average speed control measures will be implemented on the Tallinn highway (A1) from Vitrupes to Svētciem, as well as on the Liepaja highway (A9) in multiple segments. These measures aim to monitor not only the average speed of vehicles but also the compliance with mandatory civil liability insurance, technical inspections, and road usage fees.
In total, Latvia plans to introduce 17 new average speed control zones on state highways this year, with 14 being implemented between March and May. Key locations for these control measures include parts of the Vidzeme highway (A2), Valmiera highway (A3), Daugavpils highway (A6), and Ventspils highway (A10). The initiative highlights the government's ongoing efforts to improve road safety and compliance among drivers in order to reduce accidents and enhance overall traffic management.
This significant expansion in average speed control zones demonstrates Latvia's commitment to promoting safer driving practices and ensuring that vehicles on the road meet legal requirements. By increasing the number of control zones, authorities aim to deter speeding and enforce traffic regulations more effectively, contributing to the overall safety of Latvia's road transportation system.
