On Thursday, two new average speed control sections will start functioning on Latvian roads

New average speed control sections will be implemented on Latvia's roads starting Thursday, focusing on sections of the Riga bypass.

On Thursday, March 19, two new average speed control sections will be activated on the Riga bypass road (A4), specifically between Baltezers and Saulkalne. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by VSIA "Latvijas valsts ceΔΌi" to enhance road safety and ensure compliance with traffic regulations. The average speed monitoring will be in effect from the intersection with the Riga-Δ’rgΔΌi road (P4) to the bridge over the Little Jugla and from the intersection with the Ulbroka-Ogre road (P5) to the overpass over the Daugavpils highway (A6).

In addition to monitoring average speeds, these control sections will enforce requirements related to vehicle owner liability insurance (OCTA), technical inspections, and the payment of road usage fees. This is part of a larger plan this year, which aims to introduce a total of 17 new average speed control areas across the national road system. Notably, three new average speed control sections began operating on the Tallinn and Liepaja highways on February 25, marking a robust commitment to road safety in Latvia.
