On Thursday, March 12, six new average speed control zones will begin operating on Latvia's state roads, as reported by Latvijas Valsts ceļi.
On March 12, six new average speed control zones will be implemented across Latvia's highways, according to an announcement by Latvijas Valsts ceļi (Latvia State Roads). These zones are designed to monitor the average driving speed of vehicles and will help in enhancing road safety measures across the country.
The new control zones will be located on various important routes, including the Vidzemes shoseja (A2) from Ieriķi to the Valmiera-Cēsis-Drabeši road (P20), and from Bērzkrogs to the Smiltenes roundabout. Additional zones will be set up along the Valmieras shoseja (A3) from Stalbe to Rubene, along the Daugavpils shoseja (A6) from Dzelmes to Uplejas, and on the Ventspils shoseja (A10) between the roundabouts near Tukums. Furthermore, there will be a control zone on the Tīnūži-Koknese road (P80) from Tīnūži to Ziediņi.
These new installations will check not only the average speed of vehicles but also ensure that vehicle owners have valid mandatory civil liability insurance (OCTA), have passed technical inspections, and have paid the necessary road usage fees. The introduction of such measures is part of a broader effort to improve road safety and reduce traffic violations, signifying the government's commitment to maintaining safe driving conditions for all.
