IG disburses N2.4bn cheques to deceased officers’ families
The Nigeria Police Force has distributed N2.4 billion in insurance benefits to families of deceased officers as part of its welfare schemes.
The Nigeria Police Force has recently disbursed over N2.4 billion in insurance benefits to 1,075 families and next-of-kin of deceased officers. This significant payout was made under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes, with the cheques presented by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at a ceremony in Abuja. The total payment, amounting to N2,435,421,584.11, spans multiple policy years, covering years from 2018 through 2026 and includes recovery of outstanding claims from previous years.
During the presentation, ACP Lydia Ameh, the Force Insurance Officer, emphasized that this disbursement is a testament to the Inspector-General’s commitment to the welfare of officers and their families. The payments not only provide financial relief to grieving families but also reflect the police force's dedication to honoring past officers who served the nation. This initiative concludes longstanding insurance obligations, which aims to improve trust and ensure that such payments are made timely in the future.
The strategic focus on family welfare underscores the Nigerian Police's evolving approach in handling the aftermath of losing personnel in the line of duty. By ensuring that insurance claims are resolved adequately, the police force is taking proactive measures to amend previous delays from insurance providers and is committed to preventing such issues moving forward, portraying a more supportive environment for its members and their families.
