There Will Be Six New Average Speed Control Sections
New speed control sections will be implemented starting March 12th on various highways in Latvia.
Starting on March 12 at 8 a.m., Latvia will initiate the monitoring of average driving speeds across six new sections on its highways. This includes segments of the Vidzeme Highway (A2), Valmiera Highway (A3), Daugavpils Highway (A6), Ventspils Highway (A10), and the Tīnūži–Koknese road (P80). The speed monitoring will enforce compliance with average speed limits as well as checks for insurance, technical inspections, and road usage fees.
In total, the Latvian government plans to set up 17 new average speed control sections this year to enhance road safety and compliance with traffic regulations. By May, additional installations will be activated on the Liepāja Highway (A9) and the Rīga bypass (A4) among others, aimed at reducing speeding and promoting safer road usage.
The introduction of these measures represents an ongoing effort by Latvian authorities to curb road accidents and improve overall traffic safety. As more average speed cameras are introduced, it is expected that drivers will become more compliant with speed limits, potentially leading to a decrease in traffic violations and accidents, thereby contributing to safer travel conditions on the country's roads.
