The new biathlon talent Lozbers: The season has simply been great

Latvian biathlete Lozbers reflects on a successful season, including his debut in the Winter Olympics and impressive wins in youth championships.

Latvian biathlete Rihards Lozbers has had a remarkable season, marking his debut at the Winter Olympics in February where he placed 32nd in the sprint competition against the world's best, qualifying for further races. Following this, Lozbers showcased his exceptional skills at the Youth World Championships in February and March, where he won one gold and two silver medals individually, in addition to helping the Latvian junior team secure victory in the mixed relay event.

Lozbers expressed his satisfaction with the season, stating that achieving four medals in four races at the Youth World Championships, including two first-place finishes, exceeded his expectations. He noted that the current year has produced results he could only dream of and emphasized that he aims to perform well in every competition throughout the season. The youth biathlon scene is increasingly competitive, but Lozbers remains focused on his work ethic and performance, irrespective of the event level.

Despite spending a significant portion of the season competing in the IBU Cup series, Lozbers believes the standards are the same across all competition levels in biathlon. He maintains that attention to preparation and effort is key, whether in youth competitions, IBU level, or the World Cup events. His dedication and achievements have placed him in the spotlight and raised hopes for Latvia’s prominence in biathlon on the international stage.
