Olympic debutant Lozbers looks to regain emotions with marshmallows on recovery day

At 16, Latvian biathlete Lozbers faced a difficult Olympic debut, finishing 88th in the 20km individual event after making several shooting errors, yet remains focused on his next event.

Sixteen-year-old Latvian biathlete Lozbers had a challenging Olympic debut, finishing in 88th place in the 20 km individual race at the Olympics. In the first two shooting ranges, he made seven mistakes that severely impacted his chances of achieving a good result. Each missed target resulted in a one-minute penalty, and despite his efforts to finish the race, he only surpassed one competitor who also struggled with shooting errors.

In an interview after the race, Lozbers expressed disappointment, acknowledging that after the first two shooting sessions, he realized that his chances of a good finish were over. Nevertheless, he pushed through to complete the race and focus on future events, particularly the upcoming sprint. He reflected on his mistakes during the race, understanding where he went wrong and managing to close nine out of ten targets in the final two shooting sessions, indicating a potential for improvement.

Lozbers noted that the early struggles allowed him to conserve energy for the sprint, recognizing the importance of focusing on subsequent events rather than dwelling on his initial setbacks. This experience at the Olympics, while disappointing, could serve as a valuable lesson for his future career in biathlon, especially as he aims to continue competing at high levels on international stages.
