Lozbers wins gold medal at the World Youth Biathlon Championship
Sixteen-year-old Lozbers claimed gold in the under 19 category at the World Youth Biathlon Championship, showcasing exceptional skiing speed despite some shooting mistakes.
In the under 19 category of the World Youth Biathlon Championship, 16-year-old Latvian athlete Lozbers achieved a remarkable victory by securing the gold medal. During the race, he made three shooting mistakes while lying down but was flawless in standing shooting, accumulating a penalty of 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Despite these shooting errors, Lozbers was the fastest skier on the course, finishing with a significant lead over his competitors, nearly 2 minutes ahead, with a final time of 38 minutes and 21.2 seconds.
His closest rival was Ukrainian athlete Tarass Tarasjuks, who also faced shooting challenges and finished with a time that placed him 54.5 seconds behind Lozbers. Bulgarian Georgij Dzhorgov took the bronze, struggling with three shooting mistakes, while French athlete Nanss Madelenā trailed closely behind, missing the podium by mere seconds. The championship featured 117 competitors, highlighting Lozbers's impressive performance among a large and talented field.
Apart from Lozbers, several other Latvian participants faced challenges, with Rūdolfs Raudziņš finishing 20th despite missing four targets, and Ernests Solovjovs finishing 69th with nine mistakes. Rainers Krišmanis also struggled, landing in 71st place with four errors. Overall, Lozbers's victory not only reflects his individual talent and hard work but also brings pride to Latvian sports on an international stage.
