On Wednesday, five people were injured in traffic accidents across Latvia, according to the State Police.
On Wednesday, Latvia experienced a number of traffic incidents that resulted in five injuries, as reported by the State Police. In total, there were 92 traffic accidents recorded on Tuesday, four of which involved injuries. Among the injured individuals was a cyclist, highlighting the ongoing concerns regarding road safety for vulnerable road users in the country.
The bulk of these incidents occurred in the Riga region, where three accidents resulted in three injuries. Meanwhile, in the Kurzeme region, one accident resulted in two injuries, with a bicycle rider among those hurt. Notably, the regions of Latgale, Zemgale, and Vidzeme reported no injuries from traffic accidents during this period, indicating a possible variance in traffic patterns or safety measures across these areas.
In addition to the accidents, the Latvian authorities detained six drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol the previous night. Among those arrested, two faced administrative responsibility while four cases escalated into criminal proceedings. Authorities also issued 214 administrative violation protocols for speeding, with the Latgale region recording the highest number of infractions, demonstrating a continued challenge with traffic law compliance in the country.
