On Tuesday, Latvia experienced a troubling day on the roads, with the State Police reporting a total of seven injuries stemming from various traffic accidents. In total, there were 198 registered traffic accidents nationwide, of which five resulted in casualties, highlighting the ongoing issues with road safety in the region. Among the injured were two pedestrians, underscoring the risks faced by those outside of vehicles.

The majority of the accidents occurred in the Riga region, where five individuals were reported injured within just one day. This includes the two pedestrians among the injured. Additionally, both Kurzeme and Latgale regions saw one recorded accident each, resulting in a total of two injured victims there. This incident pattern points to a critical focus area for traffic safety efforts in urbanized areas, particularly in Riga, where pedestrian safety has been a rising concern.

In a further indication of road safety issues, five drivers were detected operating their vehicles under the influence of alcohol, with four cases leading to criminal proceedings. Authorities noted that three of these impaired drivers were apprehended in the Riga area, while one each were caught in Kurzeme and Latgale. Furthermore, the State Police recorded 104 instances of drivers exceeding the permitted speed limit, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance in addressing reckless driving behaviors in Latvia's traffic enforcement initiatives.
