Notably, one of the injured parties in Riga was a pedestrian, highlighting the dangers faced by non-motorists in traffic environments.
In efforts to combat drunk driving, police apprehended four individuals for operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, with two arrests made in Riga and one each in Zemgale and Vidzeme. Among those apprehended, three drivers were found to be intoxicated to such a degree that they faced criminal charges, which could lead to the confiscation of their vehicles or compensation claims equivalent to the vehicles' values. This strategic enforcement underscores the authorities' commitment to reducing alcohol-related traffic offenses and enhancing public safety on the roads.
Additionally, there were widespread enforcement actions targeting speeding violations, with 123 traffic tickets issued to drivers across various regions. Riga reported 18 citations, while Vidzeme saw the highest number of violations at 51. Kurzemes, Latgale, and Zemgale also reported significant violations. Moreover, two drivers faced stiff penalties for aggressive driving. Overall, the police issued 445 violation protocols, indicating a robust effort to enforce traffic regulations and ensure road safety in Latvia.
