In Latvia, during the past 24 hours, four individuals have sustained injuries from traffic accidents, according to the State Police. Specifically, one cyclist and one electric scooter driver were injured in incidents occurring in the Riga region, while another cyclist was hurt in Kurzeme and an additional person was involved in an accident in Vidzeme. In total, there were 82 registered traffic accidents across the country, with the majority (50) happening in the Riga region. Other regions reported lower numbers, including 15 in Zemgale, 6 in Vidzeme, 5 in Kurzeme, and 6 in Latgale. These statistics highlight ongoing traffic safety concerns within urban and rural areas alike. Additionally, 523 administrative offenses related to traffic were processed, with a significant portion (241) concerning speeding violations. The police initiated two administrative cases for driving under the influence of alcohol and four criminal cases, alongside one criminal case initiated for operating a vehicle under the influence of possible narcotics. This points to continued extensive efforts by law enforcement to address traffic violations and improve road safety in Latvia.
