Six People Injured in Traffic Accidents in Latvia on Tuesday

On Tuesday, six people were injured in 136 traffic accidents reported across Latvia.

On Tuesday, Latvia experienced a troubling number of traffic accidents, with 136 incidents recorded by authorities, resulting in injuries to six individuals. The incidents of injury were reported across various regions, with three injuries occurring in Zemgale, two in the Riga region, and one in Vidzeme. Among the injured, there was a pedestrian and a cyclist, highlighting the vulnerabilities of those not in motor vehicles.

The Latvian State Police reported significant enforcement activities surrounding these accidents, particularly targeting driving under the influence of alcohol. On the same day, four drivers were apprehended for alcohol-related offenses, including two in Vidzeme where one individual was also found to be under the influence of narcotics. The severity of the offenses led to criminal charges, resulting in the confiscation of the vehicles or the collection of monetary compensation equivalent to the vehicles' values.

In addition to the alcohol-related arrests, law enforcement issued 386 administrative fines for various traffic violations, including 138 penalties for speeding. Breakdown of the speeding citations showed that 22 were issued in the Riga region, 45 in Vidzeme, 45 in Latgale, 17 in Kurzeme, and 9 in Zemgale. Furthermore, three drivers received penalties for aggressive driving, indicating ongoing safety concerns about road behaviors in the country.
