The Estonian renewable energy company «Sunly» plans to build the largest data center in the Baltics; total investments – 1.7 billion euros
The Estonian company Sunly is set to construct the Baltics' largest data center in Risti, which will consume 180 megawatts of electricity and create over 150 jobs.
Sunly, a renewable energy company based in Estonia, has announced plans to build a massive 180-megawatt data center in Risti, which would become the largest electricity consumer in Estonia. The CEO, Priit Lepaseps, mentioned that the center is part of a broader strategy to develop the necessary infrastructure for artificial intelligence applications in the region. This project is expected to create over 150 new jobs, demonstrating a significant investment in local employment and technological advancement.
The data center is pivotal for linking local renewable energy production with substantial energy consumption. Sunly is also in the process of constructing the largest solar park in the Baltics near Risti, expected to commence operations by mid-next year. In addition, the company plans to diversify its energy portfolio by exploring wind energy and establishing a battery storage park, which will further enhance the region's energy capabilities.
Energy expert Arvi Hamburg has commented that the market entry of a large player like Sunly could lead to lower electricity bills for consumers. This development aligns with Estonia's goals of increasing energy independence and fostering sustainability through investments in renewable energy sources, making it a significant step forward in the country's energy landscape.
