Sunly plans a data center worth over 1.7 billion euros in Lääne County
Sunly has submitted a detailed planning application to establish the largest data center in the Baltics in Lääne-Nigula, with a projected cost exceeding 1.7 billion euros.
Sunly, a renewable energy company, has announced its plans to construct the largest data center in the Baltics near the town of Risti in Lääne County, with a total expected investment exceeding 1.7 billion euros. This ambitious project includes a data center with a capacity of 180 MW, which is expected to become Estonia's largest consumer of electricity and create over 150 new jobs in the region.
The CEO of Sunly, Priit Lepasepp, emphasized the importance of this project in creating the necessary infrastructure for the application of artificial intelligence in Estonia. The chosen location in Risti is strategically advantageous, as it will facilitate the integration of local renewable energy production with high electricity consumption, thereby promoting sustainability and innovation in energy usage.
In addition to the data center, Sunly is also in the process of developing the largest solar park in the Baltics near Risti, set to begin operations by mid-year, alongside plans for wind energy development and a battery storage facility in the area. The local government of Lääne-Nigula estimated that the planning process could take up to eight months, after which the project will move towards grid connection and further development stages.
