Sunly Data Center to Train AI Models and Process Queries

Sunly is establishing the largest data center in the Baltics to train AI models and process user queries locally in Estonia.

Sunly, an energy sector company, announced plans to build the largest data center in the Baltics in Risti, Estonia, aimed at training AI models and processing queries pertinent to local users. Kaarel Aus, head of development, emphasizes the rapid growth of the data center industry worldwide, fueled by the increasing demands of artificial intelligence technologies, which necessitate more computing power.

Currently, there are no data centers in the Baltic region executing AI models on-site, leading to the processing of user queries happening remotely. Aus articulates the need for a local infrastructure that can handle these tasks, enhancing the efficiency for users in the region. The initiative represents a significant investment in Estonia’s technological capabilities, enabling not just model training but also real-time query processing locally, which is a step toward strengthening the AI landscape in the Baltics.

Additionally, the Risti data center will complement Sunly’s expansion of its energy park, set to become operational this summer, marking a major development in the local energy and tech sector interplay. The establishment of such facilities is expected to attract more businesses looking to leverage AI capabilities, positioning Estonia as a competitive player in the tech industry and helping to meet the rising demands of AI advancements.
