The Estonian renewable energy company 'Sunly' will build the largest data center in the Baltics; total investment – 1.7 billion euros
The Estonian company Sunly plans to construct the largest data center in the Baltics, which will be a significant electricity consumer and create over 150 new jobs.
Sunly, an Estonian renewable energy firm, is set to build a 180-megawatt data center that will be the largest electricity consumer in Estonia, creating over 150 new jobs in the process. This initiative aims to enhance the necessary infrastructure for the application of artificial intelligence in Estonia, as highlighted by Sunly's CEO, Priit Lepasepp. The center's strategic location in Risti will enable the integration of local renewable energy production with substantial energy consumption.
In conjunction with the data center, Sunly is also constructing the largest solar park in the Baltics near Risti, expected to commence operations by mid-next year. Furthermore, the company plans to develop wind energy and establish a battery storage facility in the region, indicating a significant commitment to renewable energy innovation. Arvi Hamburg, an energy expert, noted that the entry of such a major player into the market could potentially lower electricity bills for consumers.
This project not only underscores the growth potential of renewable energy in Estonia but also emphasizes a broader trend in the region towards sustainable infrastructure development. With substantial investments and job creation at its core, the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to harness renewable energy resources effectively while paving the way for advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, which could greatly benefit the Baltic states as a whole.
