The largest data center in the Baltic States may be built in Lääne-Nigula municipality
A new data center campus proposed by Sunly in Lääne-Nigula aims to become the largest electrical consumer in Estonia, potentially creating over 150 jobs.
Sunly has submitted a request to the Lääne-Nigula municipality for a detailed planning process to establish the largest data center in the Baltic States near the town of Risti. The proposed campus will consist of six buildings with a capacity of 180 MW, making it the largest electricity consumer in Estonia once completed.
According to Sunly's CEO, Priit Lepasepp, the project aims to attract significant investment to Estonia, supporting the country’s digital capabilities and renewable energy development. The initiative intends to create the necessary infrastructure for artificial intelligence applications, showcasing the importance of integrating local renewable energy production with large-scale electricity consumption.
The detailed planning process is expected to last up to eight months and will involve community engagement and foreign investors. This development highlights the potential for technology infrastructure growth in Estonia and represents a significant step toward enhancing the country’s technological capabilities and energy independence.
