A section of João Paulo II Avenue in Belém will be closed starting Monday for the construction of a viaduct, expected to last until April 29.
A segment of João Paulo II Avenue in Belém will undergo closure starting Monday, September 9, due to the construction of a new viaduct. The closure will affect traffic heading out of the city and is scheduled to remain in place until April 29. This area will specifically be blocked at the intersection with Cosme and Damião streets. All road users, including drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, are advised to pay close attention to the temporary signage that will be established in the vicinity.
This construction project is part of the broader works associated with the viaduct being built at the intersection of João Paulo II Avenue and Dr. Freitas Avenue. The intervention aims to improve traffic flow in one of the key areas connecting the capital to municipalities within the metropolitan region. With the road changes, local authorities recommend that drivers seek alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.
It's worth mentioning that the viaduct project at the João Paulo II and Dr. Freitas intersection was initially included in the package for the upcoming COP 30. However, the state government of Pará did not provide information on the reasons for its removal from the project list. Suggested alternative routes for motorists include access via Travessa Angustura or Dr. Freitas Avenue, both of which lead to Almirante Barroso Avenue, a primary corridor linking the city to surrounding areas.
