Traffic blocked on Avenida Júlio César after problem with COP 30 construction pedestrian bridge in Belém

A pedestrian bridge under construction on Avenida Júlio César in Belém has been closed due to safety concerns regarding its stability.

A pedestrian bridge constructed over Avenida Júlio César in Belém was closed on Friday afternoon after concerns were raised about its stability and potential for collapse. This bridge is part of the Urban Park Igarapé São Joaquim project, which was one of the promised developments for the upcoming COP30 but has not yet been completed. The city government took immediate action to ensure the safety of motorists by blocking traffic in the affected area.

In response to the closure, municipal infrastructure teams have been deployed to assess the condition of the pedestrian bridge and determine the urgent measures required to address the safety risks. Meanwhile, agents from the Municipal Secretary of Security, Public Order, and Mobility (Segbel) are on-site managing traffic flow and directing drivers toward alternative routes to minimize disruptions.

The project, which is being managed by the Igarapé São Joaquim Consortium, including Construbase and other companies, has been notified about the incident. City officials are working closely with the consortium to ensure that necessary repairs and evaluations are conducted promptly, as the structure’s integrity is critical to both public safety and the upcoming events associated with COP30.
