Matinhos and Guaratuba connect by land for the first time in history with the advancement of the Guaratuba bridge work
Matinhos and Guaratuba have connected by land for the first time in history due to the progress on the Guaratuba bridge, with completion expected in 2026.
Matinhos and Guaratuba, two cities in the state of Paraná, Brazil, have achieved a historic milestone by connecting by land for the first time, thanks to the progress on the Guaratuba bridge construction. This significant infrastructure project, which began in October 2023, has a budget of R$ 400 million and is projected to be completed by April 2026. The link was marked by a ceremony known as the 'concretagem da aduela de fechamento', wherein the two sides of the cable-stayed bridge were formally united.
The official connection was celebrated when approximately two meters of concrete were poured, comprising around 44 cubic meters in total during the process. This momentous event not only symbolizes the physical connection between the two cities but also represents a significant development in regional infrastructure aimed at enhancing local connectivity and boosting economic activity. The governor of Paraná, Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior, visited the site the following day, participating in the final stage of the concrete pouring, emphasizing the project's importance to the local communities.
This bridge is anticipated to have lasting implications for the region, as it facilitates travel and trade between Matinhos and Guaratuba, potentially stimulating tourism in this coastal area. While the construction timeframe extends to 2026, the ongoing project reflects a broader governmental commitment to improving transportation infrastructure in Paraná, with hopes of fostering development and enhancing the quality of life for residents. It symbolizes not just a physical structure but a step towards deeper integration of local communities.
