Inauguration of a bridge connecting Brazil to Paraguay may be delayed due to lack of access and customs
The inauguration of the International Bridge of the Bioceanic Route between Brazil and Paraguay, scheduled for August 2026, may face delays due to incomplete works and regulatory issues.
The International Bridge of the Bioceanic Route, set to connect Porto Murtinho in Brazil with Carmelo Peralta in Paraguay, is facing potential delays in its inauguration planned for August 2026. Approximately 90% of the bridge has been completed, with just around 100 meters left to finish the structure. However, the land access to the bridge along the BR-267 has no defined timeline, putting the project's timeline in jeopardy.
The access road on the Brazilian side stretches 13 kilometers and is currently behind schedule, largely due to a lack of federal government funding. The Secretary of the Environment and Development for the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Jaime Verruck, has expressed that while the Paraguayan side is progressing well, the Brazilian side's access road will not be completed until the second half of 2027. This significant setback raises concerns about the overall completion of the international connection.
