An evacuation flight from Dubai has arrived in Vilnius
An evacuation flight from Dubai carried 120 Lithuanian citizens back to their homeland, along with passengers from Latvia and Estonia.
An evacuation flight operated by Fly Dubai has successfully landed in Vilnius, returning approximately 120 Lithuanian citizens from Dubai. In total, 166 passengers were on board, including citizens from Latvia and Estonia, reflecting a targeted evacuation effort coordinated by the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The flight was part of a broader initiative to assist vulnerable groups and was partially funded by the European Union, which will cover up to 75 percent of the flight's costs.
The organization of this evacuation was facilitated by diplomats from the Lithuanian embassy in the UAE, who were present at Dubai Airport to assist citizens with registration and any on-ground issues encountered during the process. It's noteworthy that not all citizens were able to board the flight; two Lithuanian families were left behind due to an unexpected shortage of seats. The families were offered assistance by the Cypriot ambassador, as alternative arrangements were being made for their evacuation on a flight headed to Cyprus.
This evacuation highlights the collaborative efforts of various embassies within the EU to ensure the safety and return of their citizens during emergencies. It also underscores the importance of international cooperation in facilitating such operations, especially in regions facing significant challenges, ensuring that those in vulnerable situations receive the necessary support and assistance during critical times.
