Ministry of Foreign Affairs: registration for evacuation flight completed, about 120 Lithuanian citizens will soon leave Dubai
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the completion of registration for an evacuation flight from Dubai to Vilnius, scheduled to carry approximately 120 citizens, with some issues still being resolved.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that registration for an evacuation flight from Dubai to Vilnius has been completed, signaling an imminent departure for around 120 vulnerable Lithuanian citizens. The details were shared via the official Facebook account of the Ministry, where it was highlighted that assistance was rendered to resolve various issues at Dubai airport by Lithuanian diplomats stationed in the UAE. This operation reflects the ongoing concern for the welfare of citizens stranded in the Middle East amidst rising tensions in the region.
However, the situation has not been without its challenges. According to Lithuania's ambassador to the UAE, RamΕ«nas Davidonis, two families missed the flight due to unspecified reasons, but efforts are underway to address this complication. The Cypriot Ambassador has offered to assist these families by providing them space on a flight to Cyprus, demonstrating a collaborative effort between countries during a critical time. Despite these hurdles, it has been reported that most registered citizens are currently gathered in the waiting area at the airport, ready for departure.
Moreover, the evacuation process is reportedly costing each participant about one thousand euros, which has raised concerns among citizens regarding the lack of assistance from institutions. Many have expressed their frustration on social media, indicating a desire for more support during such urgent situations. The Ministry's actions, while aimed at ensuring the safe return of its citizens, highlight the hasty logistical challenges embroiled in the evacuation process as well as the emotional and financial burdens borne by those involved.
