UFPI opens Cuidoteca for children of students and staff in Teresina
The Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) has inaugurated a Cuidoteca to provide nighttime care for children of students and staff in Teresina, aimed particularly at families in vulnerable situations.
The Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) has officially inaugurated a Cuidoteca on its Ministro Petrônio Portella campus in Teresina, specifically designed for children aged 3 to 12. This initiative, launched in partnership with the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, targets families facing vulnerability and aims to support them by providing a safe space for their children during nighttime hours. The Cuidoteca will operate from 6 PM to 10 PM, catering to the needs of both students and university staff.
During this period, children will have access to various activities that promote learning and social interaction, including reading sessions, games, and outdoor play areas equipped with toys. There will also be provisions for meals, ensuring that the children's nutritional needs are met while they engage in these enriching activities. Emídio Matos, the pro-rector for Student and Community Affairs, announced that registration for this service will begin the following Monday, allowing parents to sign up their children based on defined criteria that include both children with and without disabilities.
The introduction of the Cuidoteca represents a significant step towards enhancing the support structure for families within the university community, offering them peace of mind knowing their children are cared for in a nurturing environment during evening hours. This initiative not only addresses immediate needs but also reflects broader social responsibilities that educational institutions can undertake to foster inclusivity and support for vulnerable populations. Emídio's remarks during the launch emphasize the commitment of UFPI to being a supportive environment for all its members, particularly those in challenging circumstances.
