Piauí government authorizes program to eliminate subjects without teachers at Uespi
The Piauí government has announced a new program to address the issue of subjects lacking teachers at the University of Piauí, providing a budget of R$ 3.2 million for the initiative.
The government of Piauí has initiated a new program called the Special Management Program for Offering (PGEO) aimed at tackling the shortage of teachers for certain subjects at the Universidade Estadual do Piauí (Uespi). Announced by Governor Rafael Fonteles, the program will receive an investment of R$ 3.2 million and is set to commence in 2026. The governor emphasized the importance of ensuring that every campus of the university has qualified educators for all subjects, reinforcing the commitment to educational quality and infrastructure improvement.
Governor Fonteles highlighted that investments in Uespi will extend beyond infrastructure enhancement, aiming to provide systemic solutions for staffing needs. Alongside the program announcement, he indicated the appointment of 47 new permanent faculty members, which will increase the total teaching staff to over 1,000. This move is part of a broader effort to expand the university, ensuring quality education in teaching, research, and outreach.
The PGEO will operate on a semester basis through public calls, targeting all university campuses to ensure that all curricular components are staffed with designated educators. The initiative not only addresses current educational gaps but also promises long-term benefits by enhancing the academic framework of Uespi and improving the overall quality of education in the state of Piauí.
