UFPI Project is a finalist for a national award with actions in beekeeping

A project from the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) is a finalist in a national award for innovative educational experiences in Brazil focused on beekeeping.

A significant initiative from the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) has reached the finals of a national award, the Prêmio LED 2026 – Luz na Educação, which highlights innovative educational experiences across Brazil. This project, known as the Group of Study and Work with Bees (GTA), primarily involves students from the Technical Course in Agriculture at the Technical School of Floriano, bringing together both current students and graduates who continue to engage in important activities related to beekeeping.

One of the project's key actions is the removal of Africanized bee swarms from urban and rural areas of Floriano. Since its inception in 2008, the GTA has successfully removed over 450 bee swarms, significantly enhancing public safety by reducing the risk of accidents involving people and animals. Beyond addressing immediate safety concerns, the project also plays a vital role in the conservation efforts for bees, which are crucial for biodiversity and the health of ecosystems.

The recognition of this project as a national finalist underscores the importance of applied educational programs that not only enrich the learning experience for students but also provide substantial benefits to the community and environment. Through practical involvement in beekeeping, the participants learn valuable skills and knowledge that can contribute to their professional development while simultaneously making a positive impact on their local community.
