The Michelin guide expands across Poland. A 'kitchen revolution' is coming
The Michelin guide is set to expand its coverage in Poland, including smaller cities, with the new edition launching on May 27.
Poland's culinary scene is preparing for an exciting year as the renowned Michelin guide, traditionally focused on the major cities, will now encompass smaller towns across the country. This significant shift aims to spotlight a broader spectrum of Polish gastronomy and recognize the hidden gems beyond the capital. The 2023 edition of the guide is scheduled for release on May 27, showcasing this expanded focus and the increasing recognition of culinary talent throughout Poland.
The journey of Michelin in Poland began in 2013 when the first star was awarded to Atelier Amaro in Warsaw, followed by a lengthy wait for the next star, which went to the now-closed Senses restaurant. It wasn't until 2020 that Krakow’s Bottiglieria 1881 received another star, indicating a gradual yet promising development within the Polish culinary environment. However, the real turning point emerged in 2023 when the Polish Tourism Organization began collaborating with the Michelin publisher, resulting in a surge of awards and recognition for Polish restaurants, highlighting the dynamic and evolving food culture in the country.
The expanded Michelin coverage underscores a significant transformation in Poland’s gastronomic reputation and encourages chefs and restaurant owners to elevate their offerings. As interest grows and more stars are awarded, it may also enhance culinary tourism in Poland, inviting more international visitors to explore the country's diverse and innovative culinary scene. Amidst these changes, events like the upcoming World Culinary Awards 2025 can further spotlight Poland’s place on the global culinary map.
