Meteorological Spring Officially Began in Latvia
Meteorological spring in Latvia started on February 27, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC).
On February 27, Latvia officially entered meteorological spring, as indicated by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC). Meteorological spring is defined by five consecutive days of average daily temperatures above zero Celsius, marking the beginning of this season on the first such day. Since February 27, the overall average daily temperature across the country has remained positive, with the last day of February and the first day of March recording temperatures close to four degrees Celsius, peaking at +11.8 degrees Celsius in Rēzekne on March 1.
In contrast to last year, when meteorological spring commenced on February 22 along the Kurzeme coast and on February 25 in most of the country, meteorological summer began early in some areas by April 17. The LVĢMC predicts a relatively dry weather pattern in the coming days, with plenty of sunshine expected. Nighttime temperatures are likely to drop to between +1 and -5 degrees Celsius; however, the warmest afternoons could reach up to +15 degrees Celsius, particularly next week.
This early onset of spring is significant for agricultural and ecological considerations in Latvia, affecting planting schedules and seasonal wildlife behaviors. The positive temperature trends highlight a shift in weather patterns that could influence climate considerations and necessitate adjustments in local farming and ecological strategies in the near future.
