Instruments should be played, not kept in a cupboard! The initiative "Send Music to Ukraine" has concluded

The initiative 'Send Music to Ukraine' encouraged donations of used musical instruments to support music schools in Ukraine affected by the war.

The initiative "Send Music to Ukraine" was a collaborative effort led by the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and the Osokins Foundation, in partnership with the company Latvijas Finieris, aiming to collect musical instruments in good condition. The initiative arose in response to the destruction brought upon music schools in the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions due to Russian military actions. By donating these instruments, individuals can contribute to the continuation of musical education for children in Ukraine while inspiring them and instilling hope for a brighter future.

During the campaign, Paula Prauliņa, a public relations specialist at JVLMA, engaged with potential donors showing interest in the initiative and became the program's first contributor by donating her own instrument. She emphasized the importance of not letting instruments gather dust but rather ensuring they are used to nurture creativity and talent, especially for the impacted children in Ukraine. The initiative serves not just as a means of aid but also as a powerful reminder of how communities can unite to support one another through art and education.

As the initiative concluded, it highlighted the broader significance of cultural solidarity, illustrating the essential role music plays in healing and education during challenging times. The impact of such projects can extend beyond immediate assistance, fostering long-term support and relationships between Latvia and Ukraine, reinforcing the bonds through shared cultural experiences and aspirations for peace and recovery.
