"Instruments should be played, not kept in the wardrobe!" The "Send Music to Ukraine" campaign has concluded
A campaign named "Send Music to Ukraine" concluded, aiming to collect musical instruments for children in Ukrainian music schools impacted by the Russian invasion.
The "Send Music to Ukraine" initiative, organized by the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) in collaboration with the Osokins Foundation and Latvijas Finieris, successfully concluded with a focus on collecting musical instruments to donate to children's music schools in the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions of Ukraine. These institutions have suffered significant damage due to the ongoing Russian attacks, leaving many of their music education resources in disarray. By donating instruments in good condition, Latvian contributors are helping Ukrainian children persevere in their musical education while simultaneously inspiring hope for a better future amid adversity.
During the campaign, JVLMA's public relations specialist, Paula Prauliņa, actively engaged with potential donors and even became the first donor herself. Prauliņa shared her personal connection to the initiative, citing her own instrument which had been gathering dust in a closet. Her story exemplified the campaign's message that musical instruments are meant to be played and enjoyed, not stored away unused. This call to action resonated with many Latvian citizens, who were encouraged to participate by donating their own instruments to assist those in need.
The project not only highlights the cultural solidarity between Latvia and Ukraine but also serves as a reminder of the power of music to unify and heal. As the donations flow in, it brings a ray of hope to the children in Ukraine, affirming their right to pursue music education and find joy and solace in the arts despite their challenging circumstances.
