SP government includes Baixada in plan until 2050 and aims for new connection between plateau and Port of Santos
The São Paulo government has integrated Baixada Santista into its 2050 Logistics and Investment Plan to enhance transportation infrastructure linking the plateau and the Port of Santos.
The government of São Paulo has included Baixada Santista in its Logistics and Investment Plan (PLI-SP), which aims to redesign the state's transport infrastructure by 2050. This ambitious initiative seeks to improve public and private investments by focusing on the integration of highways, railways, waterways, ports, and airports, reflecting a strategic approach to enhancing regional connectivity.
A primary objective highlighted by the state's Secretary of Environment, Infrastructure, and Logistics is to enhance the connection between the plateau and the coast. This emphasis is particularly critical for facilitating smoother cargo flow and improving access to the Port of Santos, which is recognized as the largest port complex in the Southern Hemisphere. By addressing these infrastructural needs, the government is targeting efficiency and effectiveness in freight movement.
The plan also emphasizes the development of new railway sections that hold potential for logistical advantages, which can notably reduce the reliance on road transportation. This shift aims not only to increase cargo handling capacity but also to promote a cleaner, more economical, and sustainable model for transportation within the region. Such enhancements are expected to have a long-term positive impact on the economy and environmental sustainability in São Paulo and the surrounding areas.
