In the first nine hours, more than 73 thousand annual income declarations have been submitted

Since midnight, 73,500 individuals have submitted annual income declarations through the Electronic Declaration System, which is an increase compared to last year.

Since midnight, the State Revenue Service (VID) in Latvia has reported that over 73,500 income declarations for the previous year have been submitted through its Electronic Declaration System (EDS), marking an increase of 3,500 compared to the same period last year. VID's Director General, Baiba Ε mite-RoΔ·e, noted that an unusual situation occurred where approximately 400 individuals attempted to submit more than four declarations each within the first hours, an act that may indicate an intention to disrupt the EDS.

As of today, residents can begin submitting their income declarations for the previous year, which has prompted a significant rush, leading to overcrowding in the system. Observations by the LETA agency revealed that just after midnight on March 1st, access to the EDS was temporarily unavailable due to the enormous initial interest in logging in and using the system. This highlights the growing trend of digital submission for important government documentation in Latvia, reflecting a move towards modernization in public services.

The introduction of the EDS has streamlined the process for submitting income declarations, but this influx and technical difficulties underline the importance of system readiness and user support. With increasing numbers of submissions each year, it will be essential for VID to manage these peaks effectively to maintain a smooth user experience and ensure compliance among taxpayers.
