More than 202,000 annual income declarations submitted so far
As of Monday morning, over 202,000 annual income declarations for the previous year have been submitted to Latvia's Electronic Declaring System.
According to Baiba Šmite-Roķe, the Director-General of the State Revenue Service (VID), more than 202,000 individuals have lodged their annual income declarations for the previous year through the Electronic Declaring System (EDS) by Monday morning. She mentioned that typically around one million declarations are submitted within a year, indicating that approximately one-fifth of the annual total has been received since the submission period opened on March 1, 2025.
On the first day of the declaration period, it was noted that the EDS operated smoothly overall, although some initial sluggishness was observed in the first 30 minutes of the submission. Šmite-Roķe pointed out an unusual situation this year, where certain individuals were identified as intentionally engaging in illogical patterns of activity, which she believes obstructed other users' access to the EDS. As a result, many users had to wait longer to enter the system and submit their declarations.
The VID director emphasized the normal operational challenges faced during the declaration period but expressed concern over the behaviors of some users that seemed designed to exploit the system. This early stage of declaration submission indicates a bustling start for the VID as it aims to collect one of its busiest annual tasks efficiently amidst the challenges faced in its digital reporting system.
