As of Monday morning, nearly 210,500 income declarations have been submitted to VID
Over 210,500 income declarations have been submitted to VID by Monday morning, accounting for about one-fifth of the expected annual total.
The Latvian State Revenue Service (VID) reported that by Monday morning, nearly 210,500 income declarations had been submitted. This number represents approximately one-fifth of the declarations typically submitted over the entire year, which averages around one million. Baiba Šmite-Roķe, the general director of VID, stated that the electronic declaration system (EDS) functioned steadily throughout the 24-hour period, although there was some initial sluggishness observed in the first half-hour of submissions. This minor delay led to concerns among some users that the system had crashed, which was not the case.
Szmite-Roķe highlighted that there have been instances of users engaging in seemingly irrational actions when submitting declarations, which may have been done either out of amusement or to demonstrate the system's inadequacies. These actions caused delays for other users as they complicated the process by submitting, deleting, and resubmitting declarations unnecessarily. She indicated that while the number of declarations submitted on March 1st has been decreasing by about 5-7% annually, this year's pattern does not represent a significant anomaly and still adheres to the overall trends observed in previous years.
