Sejong University’s Sejong Museum Gallery Hall 2 is set to host a solo exhibition by artist Ryoo Ji-sun from February 25 to March 8, 2026. The exhibition is titled 'Looking Back' and will showcase more than 60 paintings that capture delicate emotional textures through everyday scenes and objects. Ryoo Ji-sun has a history of exploring familiar landscapes and spaces, drawing viewers into a deeper exploration of sensory experiences and the layers of memory associated with them.
Having graduated from the Central University of Arts and continuing with graduate studies, Ryoo has participated in numerous exhibitions, including 12 solo exhibitions and over 230 group exhibitions, marking her as an active and prominent artist in the field. Her work focuses on the subtle emotional threads intertwined in our daily lives and encapsulates traces of memory left through the passage of time. The restrained palette and the use of emptiness are critical elements in her paintings, which create a calm tension and a contemplative space for emotions to reside, reflecting Ryoo’s perspective that the essence of life finds its significance in ordinary moments rather than grand events.
A representative from the Sejong Museum Gallery commented that the spatial distance and arrangement of objects within Ryoo’s work can be interpreted as metaphors for relationships. They articulated that the exhibition prompts viewers to reconsider the warmth of life that we often overlook, as it weaves together emotions and memories embedded in everyday landscapes. This exhibition not only highlights Ryoo Ji-sun’s artistic vision but also invites the audience to engage in a dialogue about the poignancy of ordinary experiences.
