Sejong University's Sejong Museum Gallery 1 will host a solo exhibition by painter Kim Dong-seok from March 4 to 15, 2026, showcasing about 40 selected works that explore the roots of nature and life.
From March 4 to 15, 2026, Sejong University's Sejong Museum Gallery 1 will present a solo exhibition by painter Kim Dong-seok, who has spent over 30 years exploring the origins of nature and life through various artistic expressions. The exhibition will feature approximately 40 selected works, including his notable installation piece 'Seokgwa Bulshik', which uses seeds as a primary motif to encapsulate the artist's philosophical and artistic intentions.
Kim Dong-seok, a graduate from the Western Painting Department of Chugye University for the Arts, has actively participated in 32 solo exhibitions and over 650 group shows. His work revolves around fundamental images such as 'path', 'mother's land', and 'seed', using these motifs not just as mere representations of nature, but as symbols that metaphorically reveal the beginnings and cyclical nature of human existence. Through repetition, accumulation, and variation, forms densely occupy the canvas, inviting viewers to confront the meanings of time and life.
Art critic Kim Yi-cheon commented on the unique characteristics of Kim Dong-seok's installation works, noting their ability to encapsulate and diffuse the vitality of seeds within the open space of the exhibition. Drawing on philosophical perspectives, he linked the circular images of clustered seeds to the traditional Korean cosmology of heaven being round and earth being square, while aesthetically showcasing a harmony between straight and curved lines. The Sejong Museum Gallery stated that this exhibition will illuminate the artist's reflections on form and his symbolic world, providing a focused exploration of his key works accumulated over the past 30 years.
