Professor Kim Yoon of Dongseong Women's University Holds Solo Exhibition Abroad
Professor Kim Yoon from Dongseong Women's University is holding a solo exhibition titled 'Saekdong Layers – A Field of Suspended Color' in Chicago and Illinois, USA.
Professor Kim Yoon from Dongseong Women's University has been invited to present a solo exhibition in the United States specifically at the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago and with the Illinois ARTS Council. The exhibition is named 'Saekdong Layers – A Field of Suspended Color', which expands her earlier work on Saekdong-based K-Culture fashion illustrations showcased in Chicago earlier in 2023. This invited exhibition illustrates the evolution of traditional Korean Saekdong patterns into contemporary fashion images, utilizing digital printing techniques and immersive installations.
The display combines 3D fashion show video elements with the physical exhibition, ultimately transforming the traditionally flat imagery of Saekdong into a spatial and dimensional experience. This interactive setting allows attendees to walk through the artworks suspended in the gallery, experiencing the colors not just as visuals, but as a spatial journey by moving through areas that reinterpret Saekdong beyond its decorative origins. Each piece forms a corridor of color, inviting the audience to engage with the layered essence of Saekdong in a refreshing manner.
This exhibition began on the 30th of last month and will run until the 11th of this month, located at the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago in Illinois, USA. It brings a modern twist to the interpretation of Korean traditional design, melding elements of fashion, installation art, and interactive experiences, highlighting an ongoing dialogue between historical and contemporary cultural expressions.
