Professor Kim Yong-seon is set to hold his 31st solo exhibition titled 'Colorful Library' from February 19 to 27 at the Kukje Gallery in Seoul, as he approaches his retirement.
Professor Kim Yong-seon, also known by his artist name Kim Cheon-jeong, is preparing to retire from Sahmyook University's Art and Design Department at the end of February. In celebration of his distinguished career, he will open his 31st solo exhibition titled 'Colorful Library' at the Kukje Gallery in Seoul from February 19 to 27. The exhibition features 45 major works that encapsulate the breadth of his artistic vision, all within a significant display, marking a culmination of his contributions to the art world.
The 'Colorful Library' transcends being merely a physical space for books; it embodies a realm for contemplation and the intersection of life and thought. The vivid colors arranged on the canvas represent a spectrum of emotions, memories, and the rhythm of existence, inviting viewers into a profound experience of self-reflection and communal healing. The director of the Kukje Gallery, Kim Bo-seong, describes his works as a means to recover the depths of emotion and coherence in existence lost in modern society, emphasizing that the colorful expressions are not only a revival of tradition but also a practice of healing and compassion through artistic ethics.
Throughout his career, Professor Kim has made significant contributions to art education and administration. Holding a PhD in Fine Arts from Hongik University, he boasts a remarkable record of 31 solo exhibitions and participation in over 400 art fairs and group exhibitions. He also played a pivotal role in advancing the university during his tenure, occupying key positions such as vice president, director of student affairs, and director of the university's museum. As he retires, he will be honored with the Order of Cultural Merit by the government, recognizing his exemplary service to education and the arts.
