Meteorologists Announce Where It Snowed the Most
Meteorologists in Lithuania report significant snowfall in various regions, particularly in the northwestern part of the country.
On Monday, Lithuania experienced various forms of precipitation, primarily snow and sleet, along with instances of freezing rain and slippery conditions. Temperatures across the country ranged from 0 to 2 degrees Celsius during the day and dipped to between -2 degrees and 1 degree Celsius overnight. These conditions have led to a formation of fog in some areas, contributing to the development of icy conditions. The weather has caused disruptions and warnings were issued due to the lower visibility and road hazards.
The most snowfall recorded in the past 24 hours occurred in the northwestern regions of Lithuania. Specifically, Akmenė received 6.3 mm of precipitation, Mažeikiai 4.7 mm, Rietavas 4.6 mm, and Skuodas 4.5 mm. It is noted that 1 mm of dry snow corresponds to a snow depth of 1 cm when it melts, illustrating the significant impact of the recent weather conditions. These measurements indicate a considerable amount of snow accumulation which may affect local transportation and daily life.
Looking ahead, the forecast for the day predicts overcast skies with light precipitation likely in many areas. Winds are expected from the northwest at speeds of 6 to 11 m/s. The highest temperatures will range between 0 and 3 degrees Celsius, suggesting that the winter conditions will persist. This continued cold weather may have implications for local activities and the economy, especially in areas dependent on winter tourism and infrastructure.
