Meteorologists warn to be careful: on one side of Lithuania - rain, on the other - heavy snowfall
Meteorologists in Lithuania are urging caution due to severe weather conditions, including heavy snowfall in the north and rain in the south, which could disrupt travel and pose dangers.
Lithuanian meteorologists have issued warnings regarding adverse weather conditions affecting the country. They recommend avoiding non-essential travel during periods of heavy snowfall, as visibility decreases and road conditions become hazardous. Heavy snow accumulation can also cause tree branches to break or entire trees to fall, posing a risk to life and property. Additionally, the weight of the snow may lead to roof deformations and potential collapses, further amplifying the danger to residents.
During the night from Thursday to Friday, various parts of Lithuania are likely to experience precipitation, primarily in the form of snow and sleet. Conditions may vary, leading to fog, icy patches, and wet snow accumulations. The northern regions are particularly expected to see significant snowfall, whiteouts, and even blizzards in some areas. Wind speeds will range from 6 to 11 m/s, with occasional gusts reaching up to 14 m/s, contributing to the challenging conditions.
On Friday, the weather forecasts a continuation of these mixed precipitation events, with snowfall and sleet dominating the northern areas while regions in the south may experience rain. The ongoing winter weather emphasizes the importance of remaining alert and prepared, as slippery conditions like freezing rain, icy roads, and wet snow accumulations persist throughout the day, further complicating travel and outdoor activities across Lithuania.
